My journey at Flatiron.

My time at Flatiron has been memorable to say the least. I have learned so many more skills than just how to code. Having done this through a pandemic has increased the stress levels at times but overall it has been one of the best experiences of my life!

The beginning of the course was a steep learning curve; I felt like I was living in a land of gibberish desperately trying to learn and keep up at the same time. Watching YouTube videos and reading blogs of previous students was helpful as there seemed to be one key takeaway with nearly all of them, “keep going and it will go in….eventually.” In the early stages of the course I found it very helpful to get help from my Educational Coach, they know how to motivate you and have great insights into increasing your productivity, and by default, your output.

As my journey continued I moved through the curriculum and I was compounding my understanding of code, the stress levels began to drop. With each phase of the curriculum my confidence in myself grew too, this is one of my favourite parts of Flatiron, they create an environment where you can be totally yourself. The personal growth this lead to in my case has been life changing!

Flatiron is the first educational institution I have been in where I truly feel like the whole faculty care about me and my career progression. I am nearing the end of the curriculum and have a final project ready for review and in true Flatiron form they are already starting to show me how to be an uber-employable individual ,in this digital world, through their career curriculum and having access to a careers coach. I’m excited to see where this new career takes me.

To conclude, I would advise that the Flatiron journey/process is the best step anyone can take in the pursuit of launching a career in tech. Without going in to too much detail, there are invaluable lessons taught and learned, which don’t appear on the curriculum, through the faculty setting a great example. Enrol and find out for yourself!
